Back From A Long Hiatus

SL has taught me some things. I've really got to have alot of REALITY CHECKS. There is reality, there's SL-ity and you definitely cannot mix the two. There are several things I would like to say and talk about SL while I was away from this wonderful virtual world.

1. The Death of Ginny Talamasca.

Whether you are an SL veteran or an SL newbie, everyone (everyone who's actually PLAYED SL) knows about Last Call. Apparently Last Call is a collaboration between two men who shared the beloved avatar, Ginny Talamasca. The most prominent member of Last Call is the one who had died. He is the face of Last Call. It's very sad that this has happened.

I will sadly miss the styles of Dazzle and Last Call, because I feel like their style is made for me. Now the future of Last Call is shaky, and apparently a sale on the outfits are on sale at the Last Call sim. Do give a visit.

2. The Emergence of Ana Lutetia

I've been keeping up with her blog for such a long time. It's only been lately that I've visited it again. My, how she's grown into herself. She's one busy woman.

She has her own set of products called .:AnaLu:. which is a line of poses that she uses for her blog. I can't wait to see MORE of this wonderful SL-er. There's one thing I love about SL, the dedication of people to their trade. I wish I was more so.

3. The Birth of Sculpties

When I was at the precipice of the SL peak, I noticed that Sculpties were really taking off. People were starting to create things such as rocks and clothes and of course, furniture with sculpties. It's AMAZING. It's a whole new way of building and designing. And it's taking the SL Fashion World by storm.

Matreya is one such store. The level of detail on their shoes and boots... it's astounding. I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful they are. If you want to really KNOW how great they are.. just go to search them up.

4. The Comeback of Portia Rossini

How can I forget about myself huh? Of course, as my title does say, it's been a hiatus. I've loved every single minute of SL, there were times I've missed it and times where I could absolutely care less. But there's one thing I love about SL, that it welcomes you back with open arms.

I won't even say much. Just that, I am back. I am back. I am back!

Carefree Existence

It just turned midnight for me. I've been waiting for this moment for about an hour and a half. You say: "Portia, don't you have anything better to do?" And I say "I know, I so need a better first life."

I was actually bugging my two SL friends about it, Jaq and Jyla (wow, I just noticed they are both J names.. coincidence?.. I think not!)

So now that it's midnight, I can post about my next SL adventure. I was actually too lazy to dress up after this, so I went everywhere in SL looking like this. I don't think anyone minded. I've seen worse. Just look up blogs about fashion police in SL and you'll see what I mean.

I think I found my new religion. CANIMAL. Yes yes, it seems like everytime I discover a new store, I seem to find God again. If I were to count how many times I've talked about a store in excess, I would have statues of buddha, moses, and Jesus Christ everywhere in my sim, but it's true. I love Canimal. I actually searched it up by accident by looking for Aden Breyer... (without any luck).

Since my attention span in SL is about the size of a peanut, I went into this branch store of canimal and I fell in love with the patches skirt. It's adorable. I feel like I doll so I wore it and made it look like I was lounging around like a little girl (no child porn here, thanks).

Since I love this skirt so much, let me share it with you.

I know I mentioned before in my previous blog entry that freebies can be crappy. I've got another example that freebies aren't so crappy after all. (Boy, was I proven wrong the past few days!)

But then who am I to say that freebies have to be crappy? I guess when you are a newbie, all the freebies you see are the ones at the newbie sims or islands. *sighs* I remember those days when I walked like a robot, didn't know how to use chat and had the pastiest skin in the world. Now those were the good times ^.^

blowpop Skins (Part II)

Yesterday night, I was online wandering around SL like a maniac (and I met some too) looking for the perfect outfit to put up as a blog entry. And I actually found so many things. I want to go vintage next (but that's for another post). Before I digress, I spoke to Annyka Bekkers asking her when she was going to have a sale on her new Mellie3 skins, telling her specifically that I was actually dying to get my hands on a few for my blog.

And she said that if I wanted a review copy, why didn't I say so. I blinked a couple of times, then my heart soared like I fell in love again for the first time. By the way, who needs crack or heroin when you have new skins? So here I am reviewing the Mellie3. Actually I am a week or so too late on the review, but I've always wanted to make sure everyone has their taste on the skin, then have my say.

Mellie3 is, of course, a 3rd generation skin from *blowpop* skin store. If you remembered my previous post, I've talked about the Mellie2 and how much I was salivating over the new release of Mellie3. Didn't I say I was going to get my hands on it?! So here it is, folks!

The Mellie3 is a huge improvement from the previous gen. Let me list a few things about Mellie3 (at least the ones I found out myself and/or read about):

1. Six wonderful skin tones - Vanilla, Cream, Honey, Caramel, Cinnamon, Cocoa (Cocoa is a new shade)
2. Different eyebrow and pubic hair colors - Choice of brown or black hair
3. Different pubic hair styles - bare or with hair
4. Nine different make-up choices - simply nekkid, the ingenue, the sophisticate, town and country, london bridges, dear brigitte, g-girl, sharkskin diva, burlesque queen
5. Freckles!

I left freckles for last because if you actually go back enough on my posts, I've developed a thing for freckles. And I am delighted to tell you, I love the freckles on this skin. It's not overkill at all and the freckles are subtle but charming.

I know you might think that that the make up choices and the pubic and eyebrow hair colors are a bit too much. But let's face it, who does not want more choices with their skins? I've complained enough to my friends telling them that there just isn't enough make up choices out there for most skins and the fact is:

SKINS NEED TO BE VERSATILE

I can't stress enough that skins are something we, as SLers, have to wear constantly with our clothes. Just like our gowns, pants, jeans, blouses, tanks, hair, shoes and accesories, purple lipstick does not go with a yellow top. And this is where I say that a creator who goes all out to make more choices for skins makes the skins she/he makes easier to use, more convenient and completely foolproof for outfits.

Before I digress too much, I would like to say that the skins are offered in TWO locations:

Interesting Fact: I asked Annyka Bekkers why she named her different make up choices the names she did. The make up "london bridges" was named after Fergie in her music video. (Annyka, correct me if I am wrong).

As most of you all know, Second Life is very commercialized. Everything from the animation in which you stand still (called Animation Overriders) to the sculptie shoes that you are wearing was made by someone who probably wanted lindens for those things. Usually, the phrase "if it's too good to be true, it usually is" is pretty accurate about most things free in the Second Life grid, however for once, maybe the phrase above isn't always true.

I was talking to a friend of mine, and she teleported me to this store; and there staring right in front of me were three inconspicuous looking boxes in the corner. Mind you, the boxes weren't right in front of me, I had to actually turn around to see them, but they were there.

When I approached it and clicked on the buy button, it said L$ 0. I was in a state of shock. Alright, you might feel like I am overdramatizing, but freebies are crappy most of the time (admit it!) and I was expecting this as no different, but as I approached more and everything rezzed, it was one of the most well made dresses I've seen (FOR FREE) and I was shocked to learn of its 'free' status.

I couldn't believe that such a thing was even found in a freebie table, when usually the item I found was more store selling material than just a freebie. But boy am I glad it was a freebie. It restored my faith in SL designers that treasure the idea of a good freebie. My cynicism at the commercialization of SL has been reduced due to this store. And I have to thank for that.

Rocker Girl

I've always wanted to look 'cool'. I have to admit, I am a total nerd in RL. I love to do lots of nerdy activities such as read, write and yes BLOG (it's the same as writing, you say? You are so wrong...) I went to get out some necessities to look cool.

1. Sunglasses
2. Leather jacket
3. Cool t-shirt
4. Tight dark wash jeans

I've grown up with such a formula of 'cool-ness'. Of course, back in the heyday, smoking was also synonymous with being 'in' as well. But we all now know that smoking causes cancer and very nasty and dark lungs, so I am going to leave that out of the formula.

But do you know what is also synonymous with the word cool?

I am changing this completely now. Cool = SL.

No ifs, ands or buts. If your avatar is biker chick cool in secondlife, you can't get any cooler than that.
